Winging it

Oxford Report written by Anwen Greenaway

Third time's the charm at the Bayard's Hill Primary School new vegetable garden.

On previous visits we've weeded the 7 raised beds installed last year, as well as the pile of top soil which will fill those spaces. This time everything just needed a light weeding then we could get the going with topping up the soil in the raised beds. Forming a production line of soil shovellers, bucket carriers and raised bed levellers, we got every raised bed filled with soil and ready for seeds.

A great effort from everyone, particularly on such a warm day.

Thanks to Anna for the wing-themed refreshments ;-)

Token giver

Stockport Report written by Ben Foster

For mental health awareness week, the theme is to Move More, so with ex colleagues from the department of Biochemistry and Chemistry in Oxford, I helped out at the local parkrun.

After a 6 km run to get there, I volunteered at University Parks parkrun event #119 where 659 runners and walkers completed the 5 km 2 lap course. I handed out finish tokens in a slick operation with the Beeches (Kieran and Louise) and helped clear away at the end. Afterwards we had tea, coffee, and waffles outside the chemistry building to catch up.

Rooting for you!

Stockport Report written by Sian Dobson Hughes

Last night saw a wonderful turnout of incredible GoodGymers - new and familiar (not old!) to help the High Lane Residents Association to clear a plot of land on the Middlewood Way.

The HLRA are planning to plant a beautiful display of sunflowers on the previously overgrown and bramble covered area.

We took a 2.5 km scenic but uphill run to meet David and his HLRA colleague at the location, before setting to work with some serious digging and wheelbarrowing.

Within no time, the area was bramble free and we were all ready for an easy downhill return.

Here comes the RUN 🌞

Stockport Report written by Sian Dobson Hughes

A sunny Tuesday task for our task regulars - The newly named Stockport Post.

Our run began at our Life Leisure Cheadle base where we covered a sunny 2.5 km downhill run to our delivery point where we met another cheery recruit to help with our delivery!

We smashed through the task in no time, even enjoyed an extended walk to make the most of the sun before heading back on an uphill sprint to base!
